FAQ

Q: My child is still learning to swim. Can they be on the swim team?

A: We get this question quite a bit. Simply put, this is a competitive swim team setting, not swim lessons. If your child cannot swim the entire 25 yard length of the pool unassisted, then they are not ready for swim team. It is not realistic to expect individualized attention or for the coaches to teach the basics of swimming. We would love to have them on the team when they are ready!

Q: My child is not a strong swimmer. Can they be on the swim team?

A: We would be happy to evaluate them to determine if they're ready. If they're not, we will let you know. Assuming they can swim at least 25 yards unassisted, we will work on stroke technique, strength, and endurance. You'll be amazed at their progress in such a short time.

Q: My child plays the sports/has other commitments. What is the attendance requirement for swim team?

A: We do not require 100% attendance for practices and understand that it is a busy time of year with other sports and commitments. We do ask that if your swimmer takes up a spot on the roster, they show up 80-90% of the time. As with anything, the more they practice, the stronger and better they will compete.

Q:  What age division will my child be in?

A:  The birthday cut off is May 31st.  Whatever age you child is on that date will be the division he or she will be in.

Q:Where do I RSVP my child for a meet?

A: From the main menu, click on 'calendar', scroll to the event/meet and click on the green button to the right of the event/meet. Where it says 'edit family', click to edit EACH child. Please change each child from undeclared to "attending" or "not attending". This step needs to be completed for each child for each meet, whether attending or not attending. Please complete by Monday of the week of the meet so we can assure your child's spot on in the meet. If you don't declare, we will assume they are not swimming. You can also declare in the SwimTopia app.

Q: What if the weather is bad during practice?

A: If there is inclement weather on a practice day, the coaches and coordinators will keep an eye on the weather and make a judgement call. You will get a text message via Remind if practice is cancelled. If bad weather moves in during practice, we will make a judgement call or follow the lifeguard's judgement call.

Q: What if the weather is bad during swim meet?

A: The coordinators of both teams and the officials will monitor weather and decide if a swim meet should be delayed until the weather passes or if the meet should be cancelled. If a Thursday swim meet is rained out -- it will automatically be moved to the following Monday.

Q: Why do we swim at the pool off Chadwyck rather than the one next to the club house?

A: While parking is less than ideal, the mushroom pool allows us an advantage that a lot of teams don't have: dive starts.  This pool is deep enough to dive in rather than push off the wall affording our swimmers more explosive starts.
